Personality & Ability Tests. Built on What You Love, Improved for What You Need

This isn’t yet another article about AI and accounting, so unglaze your eyes and supress that involuntary yawn.

This is an article about supporting you in hiring and developing people who can play the role of The Human in the Loop when evaluating AI-generated output, or when implementing AI ethically and conscientiously into work processes previously undertaken by people.

The great news for you is that our Critical Reasoning and APPQ Personality Tests that you use already in your hiring and development processes cover the core abilities and personality attributes associated with being an effective Human in the Loop.

Last month, we added specific AI & The Human in the Loop sections to our Critical Reasoning and APPQ Personality Tests to enable you to pin-point a candidate or staff members effectiveness in playing this vital and growing role in your business.

Here’s how it works and where to find it:

APPQ Personality Assessment

Three long-established personality traits measured by APPQ have strong associations with playing an effective Human in the Loop, with higher scores preferred in each:

  1. Conscientiousness

People with higher conscientiousness are more likely to focus on the ethical implications of using AI in processes previously undertaken by people, ensuring that accounting and customer care standards are not compromised through AI automations.

People with lower conscientiousness may take expedient shortcuts and not pay sufficient attention to ethical risks

  1. Self-Discipline

People with higher self-discipline are more likely evaluate AI-generated output in a systematic, planned and organized fashion, paying attention to detail and applying high quality standards.

People with lower self-discipline may be less concerned with applying consistent standards or paying significant attention to detail when evaluating AI-generated output

  1. Curiosity & Change Orientation

People with higher change-orientation tend to be energized by new and different ways of doing things and see change as an opportunity rather than a threat They are likely to seek out AI developments which could improve the effectiveness of the business

People with lower change-orientation tend to stick to the tried and tested methods they are comfortable with and may resist attempts to introduce change to their work

In an ideal world, having a team who all seek out change, yet apply rigorous conscientiousness and self-discipline to ensure risks are mitigated and quality standards maintained would see your business keeping up with AI developments effortlessly But life isn’t like that, so what do you need to do with your APPQ reports to spot strengths and address potential concerns?

Go to Page-11 of your APPQ report or open the attached sample report.

See how your candidate or staff member stacks up against the preferred high scores, then use the interview questions and suggested development options to address any concerns.

Critical Reasoning Test

While the APPQ covers the soft skills in being an effective Human in the Loop, Critical Reasoning focuses on the hard skills of whether someone possesses the intellectual horsepower to critically evaluate complex AI-generated text and data quickly and accurately.

We have updated the reporting in the Critical Reasoning Test Suite to include a simple one-line indication on how effective a test-taker is likely to be at:

  1. Critical Numerical Reasoning

The higher the score, the more effectively someone can turn data into meaningful numerical information by making accurate calculations, spotting trends and outliers This applies to AI-generated data as well as data from any other source, but has vital importance when building trust in what AI agents are reporting

  1. Critical Verbal Reasoning

The higher the score, the more effectively someone can scan complex text to quickly and accurately differentiate between true and false information, strong and weak arguments and summarise long text into salient points This applies to AI-generated text as well as text from any other source, but has vital importance when building trust in what AI agents are reporting and spotting AI hallucinations before they land on a client’s desk

  1. Abstract Reasoning

The Abstract Reasoning element of the test assesses how well a candidate or staff member can grasp concepts outside of their previous experience, as well as spotting trends and patterns Essential skills when training AI agents for continuous improvement The higher the score, the better.

Take a look at the attached sample Critical Reasoning Test report to see how test performance is presented in our latest update.

These changes are live

Our AI & The Human in the Loop upgrades were implemented at the beginning of June, meaning all Personality and Critical Reasoning tests you order have these additions in place now.
